$20,000 Reward Offered in Search for Suspect in Compton Drive-By Shooting of Mother and Daughter

Compton, California—Authorities are seeking public assistance in a tragic shooting that claimed the lives of a mother and daughter during a drive-by incident on April 1. In response, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors announced a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the crime.

The victims, 45-year-old La’von Hall and her 22-year-old daughter Ma’Laysia Martin, were shot while waiting at a stoplight at the intersection of Caldwell Street and Central Avenue around 7 p.m. Witnesses reported seeing a vehicle open fire before fleeing the scene heading south on Central Avenue.

Investigators discovered Hall lying in the street, while her daughter was found unresponsive in the passenger seat of their car. Both women tragically succumbed to their injuries at the scene, leaving behind a community in mourning.

Preliminary reports suggest the shooting may have been linked to a domestic dispute, although details remain vague. In a recent development, sheriff’s deputies identified 41-year-old Donte Brown, Hall’s ex-boyfriend, as a primary suspect. Brown is still at large and is considered armed and dangerous.

Authorities have urged residents in the Compton and Long Beach areas to remain vigilant, as Brown is known to frequent these locations. Detectives are appealing to the community for help, believing there are witnesses who may have critical information about the events that unfolded.

Anyone with knowledge related to the case is encouraged to reach out to the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. For those who wish to report anonymously, the crime hotline can be contacted at 800-222-8477 or through the website provided by law enforcement.

As the investigation continues, the community remains hopeful that justice will prevail for La’von Hall and Ma’Laysia Martin, whose lives were cut short in a moment of senseless violence.
