APPLE VALLEY, MN – A 20-year-old man is wanted on second-degree murder charges after allegedly stabbing another man to death following a dispute in the early hours of Sunday morning, authorities said.
Aron Isait Medina Rojas faces a warrant for his arrest in connection with the death of Daniel Isaac Aguilar, 21, whose body was discovered on a sidewalk in a residential neighborhood just after 3 a.m. Police responding to the scene found Aguilar unresponsive and bleeding from what appeared to be a puncture wound to his chest.
Court documents indicate that officers were dispatched to the area after receiving a report about a man lying motionless. When police arrived, they discovered a trail of blood, scattered personal belongings, and evidence of alcohol consumption near the scene.
Detectives quickly canvassed the area and located surveillance video that reportedly captured the sequence of events leading up to the stabbing. The footage allegedly shows the victim walking alone, followed by a confrontation involving raised voices and an escalating argument. Moments later, a man believed to be Rojas approaches Aguilar, and an altercation ensues.
Investigators say that during the encounter, Aguilar is heard declaring his intention to leave the scene, but was punched near the throat and collapsed to the ground, where he was later pronounced dead. A woman, thought to be Rojas’ girlfriend, was also seen approaching the victim with a cell phone illuminated, but both she and the suspect reportedly left the area soon after.
According to statements gathered by police, Aguilar and his girlfriend had spent the evening at a Minneapolis club before an argument erupted. The situation escalated further when friends, including Rojas and his girlfriend, became involved. Tensions reportedly flared after allegations of infidelity surfaced between Aguilar and his girlfriend.
The investigation revealed that after leaving the club, Aguilar continued to argue with his girlfriend in a nearby parking lot. Soon after, Rojas and his girlfriend arrived, purportedly to collect Aguilar’s girlfriend. Police say Aguilar left on foot, and his girlfriend was dropped at a friend’s house.
A short time later, authorities believe Rojas and his girlfriend encountered Aguilar walking along a street, which ultimately led to the fatal confrontation. Witnesses described a physical altercation that ended with Rojas returning to his car with bloodstained clothing.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner determined that Aguilar died from multiple stab wounds, concluding the death was a homicide. Personal testimony from those involved, along with surveillance evidence and forensic findings, helped authorities link Rojas to the crime.
Rojas, who remains at large, is believed to be attempting to evade law enforcement, with police suggesting he may be trying to flee to Mexico. As of Tuesday, an arrest warrant was active, and law enforcement agencies continue to search for him.
