MACON, GA – A Georgia woman faces charges of attempted murder after allegedly leaving her newborn son outside in a trash bag following a surprise birth neither acknowledged to her boyfriend nor mentioned to medical personnel.
Alaynah Rappuhn, 22, was arrested on April 1 after an unsettling series of events that began when she visited the emergency room at Piedmont Macon Hospital. Rappuhn, suffering from excessive bleeding, was taken to the hospital by her boyfriend on March 31, unaware of the tumultuous night that would unfold.
According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, before heading to the hospital, Rappuhn placed a trash bag on the back porch of their home. When her boyfriend returned to retrieve some personal items for her, he was drawn to the bag on the porch after noticing movement within.
Upon inspection, he discovered a newborn baby boy wrapped in towels inside the bag. The baby was immediately brought to the hospital, where medical staff determined he was alive but in a critical condition.
Authorities revealed that Rappuhn had secretly given birth around 4:30 a.m. on March 31. She reportedly did not inform her boyfriend of the pregnancy or birth, opting instead to place the newborn in the trash bag.
Hospital staff were initially unaware of Rappuhn’s recent childbirth when she arrived for treatment. This omission came to light only after police were involved, securing the infant from the unexpected scene and swiftly taking action.
Following Rappuhn’s discharge from the hospital, she was placed under arrest and faces multiple charges, including attempted murder, reckless abandonment of a child, and first-degree cruelty to children. After her court appearance, she was ordered to remain at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center without bond.
The incident has not only shocked the local community but has also prompted discussions on the importance of communication and support systems for expectant mothers. The condition of the baby remains critical as medical personnel work diligently to ensure his recovery.
