ATLANTA, GA – A shocking crime scene unfolded behind a southwest Atlanta strip mall, where police discovered a woman’s body inside an abandoned storage unit and swiftly charged a local man in her death.
Reginald Elliot, 20, faces multiple charges, including murder, aggravated assault, gun-related felonies, and evidence tampering, after investigators linked him to the death of 29-year-old Alexis Jane Harlow. The Atlanta Police Department reported that Elliot is currently in the Fulton County Jail and is being held without bond.
Police were dispatched to Campbellton Road Southwest on August 13 after a 911 call drew them to a storage unit situated behind a grocery store that was undergoing renovations. Upon arrival, officers found Harlow’s body inside the unit. She had died from several gunshot wounds and was found unclothed, according to officials.
Emergency personnel pronounced Harlow dead at the scene. Investigators believe she had been deceased for approximately 24 hours prior to being found, estimating the date of death to be around August 10, based on initial findings and jail records.
The discovery was made by an employee who was cleaning up trash behind the strip mall, who quickly alerted others after coming across the scene. Another worker reported seeing the first employee in clear distress as he realized the severity of what he found.
Harlow had been living in the storage unit for several months, according to people familiar with the area. Residents and business employees said she was a familiar presence, often seen walking around the shopping plaza.
Elliot was already in jail for unrelated charges at the time he was identified as a suspect in Harlow’s murder. On August 27, he was taken into custody for allegedly carrying weapons on school property, along with an additional firearms charge during the commission of a felony and a drug violation.
Detectives connected Elliot to Harlow’s killing using a combination of surveillance footage from the area and ballistic evidence recovered at the scene. The specific details on how the evidence ties Elliot to the case are still emerging as the investigation continues.
Officials have stated that the inquiry into Harlow’s death is ongoing and have not ruled out the possibility of further developments. No motive for the killing has been released by authorities at this stage of the investigation.
Elliot remains incarcerated at the Fulton County Jail as the judicial process moves forward. Police are encouraging anyone with additional information about the incident to contact their office.
