TOLEDO, OH – Authorities have charged an Ohio man with felonious assault and aggravated arson after he allegedly set the mother of his child on fire, resulting in severe injuries.
Delvon Stone, 33, faces charges following the April 28 incident, which left the victim, his child’s mother, with substantial burns requiring urgent medical attention and multiple surgeries.
The complaint, filed recently in Toledo Municipal Court, details the alleged attack. It accuses Stone of pouring gasoline on the victim before setting her ablaze. The victim’s account to investigators forms the basis of the charges, highlighting the harrowing nature of the incident.
Following his arrest, Stone made a court appearance where a judge set his bond at $250,000. The legal proceedings revealed his history of domestic violence with at least two previous convictions. Given these past convictions, the allegations against him carry additional weight in the eyes of the court.
In his initial court proceedings, Stone requested and was granted a public defender. Additionally, a temporary protection order was instituted to safeguard the victim.
Stone’s preliminary hearing is slated for June 3, where the court will review the evidence and determine the subsequent steps in the judicial process.
Aggravated arson in Ohio is a first-degree felony and could lead to a maximum sentence of 11 years in prison. Meanwhile, the felonious assault charge, a second-degree felony, carries a potential 8-year sentence.
As the community awaits Stone’s next court date, the incident underscores ongoing issues surrounding domestic violence and the critical need for protective measures for victims. The case continues to draw public attention and highlights the severity of assault cases involving intimate partners.
