MELBOURNE, Australia – Harrison Hilton-Taylor, 27, appeared in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday, facing charges of murdering a 46-year-old man in Melbourne’s southeast earlier in the week, in a case that has drawn attention from the public and the media.
The accused killer, wearing a white vest and black shirt, faced the court by video link from jail, as his lawyer, Bronwen Robertson, requested that he be seen by a nurse while in custody. This request stemmed from Hilton-Taylor’s schizoaffective disorder, for which he needed medication.
Prosecutor Connor Rattray requested additional time for police investigators to compile a brief of evidence due to the volume of CCTV and body-worn camera footage that needed to be processed. The victim was found injured on the side of a road on the corner of Little Avenue and Widdop Crescent in Hampton East, and despite the efforts of emergency services to perform CPR, he died at the scene.
During the hearing, Magistrate Phillip Goldberg addressed media applications and required reporters to appear on camera, at which point Hilton-Taylor broke out into laughter, a chilling moment that left a lasting impression on those present. The accused has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court again on May 9. This case continues to unfold as the investigation progresses.
