Hong Kong, China — A tragic incident at Hong Kong International Airport resulted in the deaths of two security personnel when a cargo plane skidded off the runway and collided with a patrol vehicle, plunging both into the sea on Monday morning. The accident unfolded shortly after the Turkish-operated Boeing 747 arrived from Dubai around 3:50 a.m. local time.
According to airport officials, the crash occurred after the aircraft began veering left and skidded approximately halfway down the runway. The crew of four on board did not report any injuries and were situated at an open door of the damaged plane when rescue teams arrived. The plane split into two sections upon impact, becoming partially submerged in the water.
Airport operations executive Steven Yiu indicated that the patrol vehicle was not on the runway during the incident. “The patrol car was in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Yiu clarified, asserting that the aircraft was responsible for the collision.
