Kamas, Utah – New details have emerged in the case of Eric Richins, a Utah man allegedly poisoned to death by his wife in 2022. According to recently unsealed search warrants, Richins had his wife’s medication in his system when he died. Kouri Richins, 33, has been charged with aggravated murder and three counts of drug possession following the death of Eric, her husband of nine years. The couple shared three children and the alleged murder took place in their Kamas, Utah, home on March 3, 2022.
Search warrants revealed that Eric had a small amount of Quetiapine in his stomach contents, a medication prescribed to Kouri. The warrants also stated that Eric did not have a prescription for Quetiapine, indicating that the pills were likely his wife’s. Kouri Richins told authorities that the pills were for sleeping, but a medical examiner informed police that the pills are used as an antipsychotic.
The investigation has revealed that the murder may have been financially motivated, with prosecutors suggesting that Eric’s death was tied to disputes over the purchase of a $2 million mansion. Kouri allegedly purchased multiple life insurance policies on Eric’s life, totaling more than $1.9 million between 2015 and 2017. In addition, months before his murder, Kouri surreptitiously changed the beneficiary for Eric’s $2 million life insurance policy to herself.
Prior to his death, Eric had removed Kouri from his will and named his sister as the beneficiary, citing fears for his life after Kouri allegedly tried to poison him several years before. Kouri has since written a children’s book about death, “Are You With Me?”, which has raised suspicions. Fentanyl, a powerful opioid, was allegedly used to poison Eric, and the case continues to unfold as more details come to light.
In conclusion, the tragic death of Eric Richins has left authorities and the community in Kamas, Utah, reeling. The new evidence uncovered by search warrants sheds light on the chilling circumstances surrounding his death and raises questions about the motivations behind the alleged murder. As the investigation continues, the full extent of the case’s complexity and the webs of deceit involved will come to light.
