LOUISVILLE, Ky. — An 82-year-old woman was seriously injured in a violent home invasion over the weekend in Valley Station. Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) reported that the victim is in serious but stable condition. On Monday, 30-year-old Jamara Cureton turned herself in to Metro Corrections and confessed to the attack on the elderly victim, which occurred on Friday night. Cureton is charged with three counts of first-degree robbery in connection to the home invasion.
According to police, Cureton shattered the victim’s patio door and beat her before stealing her wallet, cash, and phone. Investigators believe Cureton lived in the area and that the attacks were crimes of opportunity. In addition to the attack on Ridge Lake Drive, Cureton confessed to two other home invasions nearby.
One of the victims, Christine Sears, described the attack as ferocious and frightening. She recounted the harrowing experience of fending off the attacker, allegedly Cureton, who entered her home through an unlocked back door on New Year’s Eve. Sears expressed relief that Cureton had been arrested and hoped that the string of home invasions in Valley Station was over.
Meanwhile, Donald Dunn, a retired military man, stated that he would have used his weapon to defend his family had the suspect approached him. Louisville Police confirmed that the 82-year-old victim is expected to fully recover. Police believe Cureton acted alone during the alleged robberies and she is expected to appear in court Tuesday morning.
The 82-year-old victim is in stable condition and is expected to recover fully from the attack. Cureton has been charged with multiple counts of first-degree robbery and is expected to appear in court soon. The community is relieved that the series of violent home invasions in Valley Station may have come to an end with Cureton’s arrest.
