COLUMBIA, SC – A young woman visiting friends was tragically killed by a stranger during his violent crime spree that spanned multiple counties, authorities said Monday.
Logan Federico, 22, was staying at a rental property in Columbia when she became the victim of an alleged perpetrator’s brazen actions. Officials say Alexander Dickey, 30, is the man behind the multiday crime wave that led to her untimely death.
Police Chief William Holbrook explained that Dickey’s crime spree included breaking into two adjacent homes in Columbia in the early hours of Saturday morning. During these burglaries, Dickey allegedly encountered Federico, firing a fatal shot that ended her life.
The incident came to light when Columbia officers responded to the scene on Cypress Street around 11:14 a.m. Saturday. Federico’s friends discovered her body, leading police to action. The suspect further aggravated the situation by stealing a car from the residence, which he used for more criminal activities, Holbrook detailed.
Dickey reportedly embarked on a spending spree in Lexington County, utilizing stolen credit and debit cards. His journey took him from Columbia to Saluda County, where he attempted continued fraudulent purchases.
Adding to the audacity, authorities stated Dickey even organized a tow service to move his stolen vehicle to a Gaston County property, expanding his illicit operations across multiple jurisdictions.
Sheriff Bryan Koon expressed condolences to the bereaved family and highlighted the havoc caused by what he termed a “career criminal” on a rampant spree.
In response to queries about any prior connections between Dickey and Federico, Holbrook asserted that the crime seemed random, driven by a set of unrelated events that brought Dickey to that location.
Dickey faces a slew of charges, including murder, several counts of burglary, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, grand larceny, and financial card theft, among others. His bond was denied on Monday as he confronts justice in multiple counties.
