Star, Idaho – Matthew Blazek, a Star man, has been handed a 45-year prison sentence for the vicious assault and rape of his former partner in her own home. Blazek, 47, was found guilty by an Ada County jury of crimes including rape, use of a deadly weapon, forcible penetration, domestic violence in the presence of a child, and attempted strangulation.
The traumatizing incident took place in July 2023 when Blazek forcibly entered his ex-girlfriend’s residence through a window. Upon waking, the victim was confronted by Blazek, who proceeded to subject her to a harrowing ordeal lasting hours. The attack involved physical assault, strangulation, threats with a knife, and ultimately, rape.
Following the assault, the victim sustained severe injuries covering a significant portion of her body. She bravely contacted the authorities once Blazek had vacated the premises, promptly reporting the violent incident.
In January, the jury’s verdict confirmed Blazek’s guilt on all charges. The presiding judge, recognizing the gravity and predatory nature of Blazek’s actions, deemed him a high risk for re-offending. Consequently, Blazek has been sentenced to serve a minimum of 20 years in prison before being considered for parole, with a maximum term of 45 years. Should he serve the full sentence, Blazek will be released at the age of 92.
The prosecution’s successful pursuit of justice for the victim serves as a potent reminder of the importance of holding perpetrators of such heinous crimes accountable. The sentencing of Blazek reflects the severity of the offenses committed and seeks to provide a measure of closure and protection for the victim and society at large.
