An Albany man has been sentenced to 25 years in state prison for charges of violent assault and attempted murder. Raheem Hines, 46, was handed the sentence by Judge Roger McDonough in Albany County Supreme Court and Judge Andra Ackerman in Albany County Court on Friday. The judges both issued the same sentence for the crimes.
According to the Albany County DA’s Office, Hines was indicted on one count of Assault in the First Degree on November 2, 2022. The indictment stems from an incident on August 23, 2021, where Hines allegedly sliced the face of a woman at a location on Central Avenue in Albany, causing serious physical injury.
In addition to the assault charge, Hines was also handed an indictment for Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree, Two Counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree on July 1, 2022.
Hines pleaded guilty to Assault in the First Degree for the slashing incident and to Attempted Murder in the Second Degree for a shooting incident. The victim of the shooting described the impact on her life, and the Homicide and Violent Crimes Bureau Chief, Jessica Blain-Lewis, also gave a statement regarding the case.
The 25-year sentence is a result of Hines’ violent actions, which have had a lasting impact on the victim and the community. This case serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of violent crimes and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
