BROWNSVILLE, Pa. — Shannon Shields is recovering after enduring a brutal home invasion that left her with serious injuries and emotional scars. The incident, which occurred early Wednesday morning, has led to nearly 50 charges against Anthony Boyer, including attempted homicide, arson, and aggravated assault.
Pennsylvania State Police responded to the chaotic scene on Water Street around 2:48 a.m. Reports indicate that Boyer, who was subject to a protection order filed by Shields, forcibly entered her home. Surveillance footage reportedly captured him breaking in, escalating the situation into a violent confrontation.
Shields recounted her terror when she discovered Boyer inside her home. “I came downstairs and he was already there. I confronted him, asking, ‘Anthony, what are you doing here?’,” she recalled. He quickly put a couch against the front door to block their escape, armed with a tire iron and later a baseball bat.
During the attack, Shields’ mother, who was also present, attempted to intervene but was punched in the face. Shields described how her mother suffered fractures that will require surgical intervention. Amid the chaos, Shields struggled to remain conscious, receiving first aid from her mother as Boyer continued to threaten her life. “He kept saying, ‘I’m not leaving, and neither are you. If you leave this house, you’re going out in a body bag,’” Shields said.
When law enforcement arrived, Boyer attempted to conceal himself in a closet. This brief delay allowed Shields, her mother, and her son to escape the house safely. “By the grace of God, I’m still here. Devin still has his mother,” she shared, reflecting on the narrow margin by which tragedy was avoided.
Boyer was arrested after allegedly starting a fire within the closet, prompting police to act swiftly to extinguish the flames before they could spread further. Shields endured multiple injuries, including significant bruising and staples in her head, physical reminders of the harrowing experience.
Despite the physical wounds healing, Shields is acutely aware of the emotional impact this incident will have on her life. She expressed her determination to seek justice against Boyer. “I will face him in court one day. He needs to be held accountable for what he has done,” she asserted, committing herself to ensuring he cannot inflict harm on anyone else.
To assist with medical and recovery expenses, a GoFundMe campaign has been established for Shields. The community’s support underscores the solidarity being shown in the wake of this violent crime, as Shields begins to navigate her path to recovery.
