THANJAVUR, India – A 19-year-old girl from an intermediate caste was allegedly murdered by her father and relatives in Thanjavur district after they discovered her relationship with a 19-year-old youth from the Adi Dravidar community. The victim’s father, Perumal, and some of his relatives are wanted for the murder, which occurred on January 3. The victim, Iswarya, was allegedly cremated by her father after her murder.
The case was filed by the victim’s boyfriend, B. Naveen, who claimed that they were in love and had even ‘married’ at a temple in Avarapalayam. However, her father lodged a missing person report, and the police had handed Iswarya over to her father before she was murdered. Naveen learned of her death when he returned to his hometown and has since filed a complaint with the police.
