Republicans Set Their Sight on Changing the Office of Congressional Ethics

As the new session of Congress opens on Tuesday, House Republicans intend to alter the rules of the ethics office responsible for investigating legislators. As part of the House rules package agreed upon with members, incoming GOP leadership proposed changes to the OCE’s (Office of Congressional Ethics) board and the hiring of new personnel that might limit the office’s capacity to probe politicians. Under the proposed changes, the House Ethics Committee may accept complaints from the general public.

The U.S. Supreme Court Rules To Maintain Trump’s Border Policy

By a decision of 5 to 4, the United States Supreme Court has upheld the Trump administration’s Title 42 border policy (with Conservative Justice Gorsuch joining the liberal Justices in dissent). The Court has also agreed to hear oral arguments and decide by the end of June on whether individual states can intervene.

Eventually, the FBI instructed Twitter to censor tweets and suspend accounts in the months leading up to the 2020 election, and nearly all were from conservatives.

McCarthy Calls Omnibus A Stain That Has Failed The American People

After passing the $1.7 trillion omnibus spending measure on Friday, House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy called it a “stain” on Congress. Currently, the United States owes more than $31 trillion. The bill increased government spending and failed to account for inflation. The President signed the bill making it official.
