CICERO, Ill. – Two women were tragically killed in a shooting in Cicero on Tuesday night, with authorities identifying them as 29-year-old Jessica Hughes and 19-year-old Myeshia Newby. The shooting, which occurred on the 1800-block of South 48th Court, has been described by police as a domestic-related isolated incident. Both women were found shot and rushed to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
In a tragic turn of events, a male subject was also found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a nearby park at the 5600-block of 16th Street on Wednesday morning. Authorities are investigating the potential connection to the shooting of the two women.
Neighbor America Pantoja, who knows the family, shared that she heard multiple gunshots inside a home on her street and saw people, including children, running out of the home and seeking refuge in her house. Pantoja described one of the victims as a dedicated and caring woman who was committed to her family.
Police responded to reports of gunfire just before 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday and blocked off roads for hours as they combed the area with search dogs looking for the shooter. The motive for the shooting is still under investigation.
