CINCINNATI — A man accused of attacking a woman during a violent brawl in downtown Cincinnati has been extradited back to Hamilton County. Patrick Rosemond, 38, was arrested in Georgia and faces serious charges stemming from the incident that occurred on July 26.
The altercation, which became widely circulated online, involved Rosemond allegedly punching the victim, identified as Holly, resulting in her being knocked unconscious. The incident unfolded near the intersection of Fourth and Elm streets and garnered significant public attention.
After his arrest in Fulton County, Georgia, Rosemond waived extradition. He was brought back to Ohio early Friday morning and booked into the Hamilton County jail. He is expected to make his first court appearance shortly.
Initial charges against Rosemond include two counts of felonious assault and one of aggravated riot. However, a grand jury has since expanded the charges, now indicting him alongside five other individuals involved in the melee. Each faces multiple counts, including felonious assault and aggravated riot, which could lead to nearly 30 years in prison if convicted.
The other suspects include Aisha Devaughn, 26; Dominique Kittle, 37; Jermaine Matthews, 39; Montianez Merriweather, 34; and Dekyra Vernon, 24. Prosecutors have indicated that the applicability of Ohio’s aiding and abetting law is essential in this case, which may affect how the charges are pursued.
Another suspect, Gregory Wright, 32, was apprehended on charges of aggravated riot and aggravated robbery. Authorities allege he stole a necklace from the victim during the assault while filming the event. Online videos of the attack have drawn scrutiny, revealing both the brutality of the incident and disturbing racial slurs shouted during the brawl.
Five of the accused faced arraignment recently, where the prosecution provided insight into the confrontation. Chief Assistant Hamilton County Prosecutor Kip Guinan described the scene as chaotic, highlighting the severity of the assailants’ actions.
Guinan noted that one video captured inflammatory language, but stressed the pressing issue of a possible homicide charge as the assault escalated. He indicated the complexity of the case may unfold as more evidence comes to light.
With the case attracting widespread media attention, the community remains vigilant as the judicial process proceeds. The next court appearances for the suspects will be closely monitored as Hamilton County grapples with the repercussions of this violent episode.
