SYRACUSE, Utah — Authorities are seeking the public’s assistance to locate a suspect linked to a violent assault that left a 26-year-old woman critically injured and hospitalized. The incident, which took place on Tuesday night, has sent shockwaves through the community, with residents reeling from the severity of the attack.
Emergency services responded to a report of a serious assault around 9:30 p.m. at a home near 2700 West and 3300 South. Upon arrival, officers found the victim in critical condition, suffering from significant head and neck injuries.
Neighbors reported hearing distressing screams just before police arrived, a sound that many described as haunting. One resident, who asked to remain anonymous, shared her concerns about the victim’s wellbeing, stating, “I just hope she’s okay. It’s terrifying to think about what happened.”
Witness accounts indicate that moments before police reached the scene, a man fled the house and entered a waiting truck, which then sped off. This suspect has been identified by authorities as 34-year-old Daniel Herson Vazquez. His sudden disappearance has left residents feeling anxious about their safety.
“It’s an uneasy feeling not knowing where he is,” another neighbor remarked. “It’s nerve-wracking, to say the least.”
In their initial investigation, law enforcement officials were on the lookout for a black GMC truck marked with a landscaping logo. Although the vehicle has been located, abandoned on a roadside, Vazquez remains at large. Authorities are also seeking information regarding the truck’s driver, who has not yet been identified.
The Syracuse Police Department continues to collaborate with state and federal agencies in the ongoing search for Vazquez, who is wanted on an active warrant stemming from a previous aggravated assault charge.
Police have emphasized the importance of public involvement in this investigation. They urge anyone who might spot the suspect not to approach him but to call law enforcement immediately. The department is looking to gather any leads that could assist in apprehending the suspect and ensuring community safety.
