Waterloo, NY — A local resident, Steven Lindon, is adjusting to normalcy after being the victim of a severe crime in his own home that ended in a police standoff. The incident, which occurred in Waterloo on April 1, left Lindon’s home damaged by gunfire and led to serious injuries.
According to reports, the assailant, who has been described as Lindon’s estranged nephew, forcefully entered Lindon’s residence demanding access to firearms. The confrontation escalated when the aggressor assaulted Lindon, causing bleeding in his brain and two fractures in his nasal area, before he began shooting inside the home. Lindon managed to flee the dangerous situation and sought help by dialing 911.
Responding officers were led to engage in a standoff with the gunman, which concluded after deploying tear gas to safely apprehend him.
Following this traumatic experience, Lindon was hospitalized to treat his significant injuries. In response to mounting medical bills, emergency home repairs, and the costs associated with cleaning the crime scene, Lindon’s daughter, Brittany Clink, initiated a GoFundMe campaign. The community’s response was swift and generous, quickly surpassing the initial goal of $6,500, eventually raising over $11,000.
Expressing her heartfelt thanks, Clink remarked on the overwhelming support, “We are overcome with gratitude for all of the support we have received for my father. There have also been so many donations from this wonderful community that my dad is all set.”
With the financial burden eased, Lindon’s home has since been restored by B&L Home Improvements. The leftover funds from the campaign will now benefit two other families who were affected by the incident, spreading further goodwill within the community.
