GALESHEWE, South Africa — A young man from Galeshewe, whose violent actions shook the community of Kimberley, has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for his involvement in two murders and multiple violent assaults. Jamaine Long, 20, committed these crimes starting when he was a minor, displaying a pattern of extreme violence that culminated in his recent conviction.
Long’s criminal activities first caught public attention following a gruesome incident at a local tavern in Sobantu Township on February 13, 2022. During the early morning hours, an altercation escalated, resulting in the fatal stabbing of one patron and the severe injury of two others. Authorities identified Long as the primary suspect in the attacks, leading to his arrest. However, he was initially released into his parents’ custody pending trial.
The string of violence perpetrated by Long did not end with this incident. In March 2023, Galeshewe police were summoned to another stabbing episode in Santa Zone 2, leading them once again to Long.
