Newport, England — A woman has been sentenced to a minimum of 13 years in prison for the murder of her estranged husband, whom she falsely claimed had taken his own life. Amy Pugh, 34, was convicted for her role in the fatal assault on Kyle Pugh, 30, in their family home on March 22, 2022.
During the trial at Stafford Crown Court, evidence revealed that Amy Pugh made a desperate 999 call after allegedly discovering her husband hanging outside their home, claiming suicide was the cause of death. However, forensic evidence and witness testimonies exposed her narrative as a fabrication, revealing that she inflicted the injuries on him.
The court heard that Kyle suffered significant trauma, including compression to the neck, and multiple fractures, ultimately leading to his death the following day in the hospital surrounded by his family. Testimonies highlighted a history of violence in the couple’s marriage, which was punctuated by arguments fuelled by alcohol or drugs.
Judge Kristina Montgomery KC addressed Pugh’s actions in court, emphasizing the sorrow inflicted on Kyle’s family due to her deceit.
