Deerfield Beach Man Arrested for Fatal Shooting: Victim Identified as Local Resident

Deerfield Beach, Fla. — A 32-year-old man has been taken into custody following a shooting incident that resulted in the death of a 33-year-old local resident. Authorities received a call about gunfire around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, which led law enforcement to the 200 block of Northwest Second Way.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered Leotis James Breedlove Jr. lying outside a residence with multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical responders quickly transported him to Broward Health North, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene in the minutes following the gunfire, as the shooter reportedly fled the area. Deputies quickly launched a search and issued a “Be on the Lookout” alert for a black Honda Civic believed to be connected to the incident. This led them to apprehend a man near the vehicle soon after, raising suspicions among law enforcement.

Detectives later managed to identify and locate the primary suspect, Jarvis Chinn, near the 200 block of Northwest 30th Avenue in Pompano Beach. Chinn was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.

Authorities confirmed that Chinn and the victim shared an address, indicating a possible connection that investigators are probing further. Law enforcement have charged him with first-degree murder with a firearm as the investigation continues.

The shooting marks another violent episode in Broward County, a community that has seen various incidents of gun violence in recent years. Local residents expressed shock at the news, emphasizing the need for increased safety measures in the area.

Law enforcement is continuing to gather evidence and interview potential witnesses in hopes of piecing together the events leading up to the shooting. Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
