New Orleans, Louisiana – 18-year-old John Honore, known as the “demon” teen who carjacked a 73-year-old grandmother and caused her death, was sentenced to life in prison on Friday. The victim, Linda Frickey, had her arm torn off when she became stuck in the seatbelt and was dragged down the street. The incident resulted in Frickey’s death in March 2022. Honore’s sentencing comes after a jury found him guilty of second-degree murder during a trial in November 2023.
The victim’s family expressed relief that justice had been served, with Frickey’s sister calling Honore a “demon” and celebrating his sentencing. The family emphasized that they were only concerned with the events of March 21, 2022, and that they were satisfied with the outcome of the trial. Three girls who were with Honore during the carjacking also pleaded guilty and were sentenced to 20 years in prison.
In a handwritten letter to the victim’s family, Honore expressed remorse for his actions, acknowledging that it was the “biggest mistake” of his life. Despite his apology, the victim’s family remained hopeful that Honore would not be released from prison even if he becomes eligible for parole in 25 years.
Frickey’s tragic death, her family’s pursuit of justice, and the sentencing of the individuals involved in the carjacking have highlighted the community’s concerns about violent crimes and the impact they have on families. The case also brought attention to the issue of underage offenders and the legal constraints surrounding their sentencing. Nonetheless, the victim’s family remains determined to see justice served and to honor Frickey’s memory.
