Devon Trio Sentenced to Over 30 Years After Brutal Attack Leaves Man in Coma

Exeter, England – Three individuals from the Devon area have been sentenced to more than 30 years in prison collectively after a violent attack that left a former friend in a coma fighting for his life.

Euan Baker, who was 18 years old at the time, endured a brutal and prolonged assault at his Exeter residence three years ago. The attackers, all teenagers at the time, entered his bedroom on April 27, 2021, wearing masks and proceeded to repeatedly beat him with a baseball bat and a hammer.

The assault resulted in Mr. Baker sustaining a traumatic brain injury, forcing him to spend two weeks in a medically induced coma on a ventilator. He was fortunate to survive the severe injuries inflicted on him.

The trio, Kai-Rhys Lawson, Aidan Manvell, and Hazem Badran, were known to Mr. Baker and had a falling out with him, potentially over a long-standing dispute regarding money. They denied attempted murder but were convicted of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Following the incident, the assailants were apprehended, and extensive CCTV evidence was gathered. Search warrants were executed at their residences, leading to the seizure of clothing and phones. CCTV footage tracked Lawson’s vehicle to and from Mr. Baker’s residence on the night of the attack, providing crucial evidence for the investigation.

The prosecution revealed that the attack was a result of a joint plan to rob Mr. Baker as a form of punishment. Badran’s actions, including witness intimidation through social media, further incriminated the trio. Additionally, evidence of the assault, such as Mr. Baker’s blood on the assailants’ clothing, corroborated the events of that fateful night.

Detective Sergeant Joanne Rotchell acknowledged the lasting impact of the attack on Mr. Baker and his family, emphasizing the resilience shown in the face of such adversity. The trio’s sentencing reflects the severity of their actions and the lasting consequences for the victim and his loved ones.

As Mr. Baker continues his journey to recovery, the community stands united in denouncing such senseless acts of violence, working towards a safer and more compassionate society.
