Domestic Violence Tragedy: Woman Kills Boyfriend in Tampa, Commits Suicide in Alabama

Tampa, Florida – A tragic incident unfolded in Tampa on Wednesday morning when a woman fatally shot her boyfriend before fleeing to Alabama and taking her own life, according to officials. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a concerned family member just before 7 a.m. Wednesday reporting the shooting at a residence on Shellgrove Court in Town ‘N Country.

Upon arrival, authorities discovered the lifeless body of Kelbys Avila, 50, who had succumbed to a gunshot wound. Investigators determined that the perpetrator was Avila’s girlfriend, Maira Pacheco Nuñez, 58, who had fled the scene in a vehicle. A warrant for her arrest on charges of second-degree murder with a firearm was swiftly issued.

Deputies from the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office in Alabama located Pacheco Nuñez’s vehicle within an hour of the warrant being issued. During a traffic stop, the suspect turned the weapon on herself and took her own life.
