MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the tragic death of a two-year-old boy, who was fatally shot in a drive-by incident earlier this year. The U.S. Marshals Service reported the arrest of Jalen Thomas on Tuesday.
Thomas faces multiple serious charges, including first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon. Additionally, he has been charged with employing a firearm with the intent to commit a felony.
The charges relate to the fatal shooting of Jamarion Love’ll Payne on April 11 while the child was playing outside in the Orange Mound neighborhood of Memphis. The incident has sparked an outpouring of grief, with residents reflecting on the impact of such violence on families and neighborhoods. Payne’s family had organized a vigil in his memory, highlighting the challenges faced by the community in the wake of the tragedy.
Details of Thomas’s booking are not yet available, and authorities have stated that updates will be provided as the case progresses. The investigation continues, underscoring the commitment of law enforcement to address gun violence and ensure justice for victims and their families.
