PATTAYA, Thailand – A violent confrontation at an apartment complex in Pattaya has resulted in the death of a 53-year-old caretaker, following a dispute over rent payments. The caretaker, identified as Thawon Wattana, was attacked by a group of individuals on the night of December 30, leading to fatal injuries that claimed his life shortly after the altercation.
The incident began when a female tenant, who resided in room 108, was requested by Wattana to settle the full amount of her rent. The discussion quickly escalated when the tenant, apparently dissatisfied with the demand, summoned several acquaintances to the scene. Reports suggest that about 10 young men arrived in two pickup trucks and immediately launched an assault on Wattana.
According to witnesses, the attackers did not engage in any conversation before starting their assault. They reportedly kicked and punched the caretaker, and even stomped on him as he lay on the ground, indicating a high level of brutality. A metal pipe found near the scene is believed to have been used during the attack.
Praiphai Wattan, the wife of the deceased who was present during the incident, recounted the harrowing ordeal. She noted that after the group fled the location in their vehicles, she found her husband unconscious in the parking lot. Despite prompt intervention from emergency services who quickly administered first aid and performed CPR, Wattana succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to a local hospital.
Authorities, led by Pol. Col. Nawin Sinthurat of the Banglamung Police, have initiated a rigorous investigation into the murder. A bystander’s recording, capturing footage of the attackers, is aiding police efforts as they work to identify and capture all individuals involved in the vicious assault.
The community has been left in shock by the severity of the attack over what began as a simple disagreement over rent. Calls for justice resonate throughout the local area as residents and officials alike condemn the violence.
