In Sevastopol, Crimea, explosions were heard in missile attacks that targeted multiple cities across the region, as well as a community in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai. The incidents occurred overnight on June 12, as reported by the Telegram channel Crimean Wind. The explosions were first reported at around 2:47 a.m. local time in Sevastopol, followed by blasts in Yevpatoria, Saky, and Krasnoperekopsk. Additionally, a few explosions were also reported in the community of Armyanskii in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai around 4 a.m. local time.
Crimean Wind speculated that an S-400 air defense system might have been damaged during the attack, but no official confirmation of infrastructure damage has been provided. The proxy Governor of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozhayev, claimed that injuries and damage resulted from the attacks, although independent verification of these claims is currently unavailable.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces have not claimed responsibility for the attacks, nor have they issued any statements regarding the incidents. However, on June 10, Ukraine’s General Staff confirmed that the Armed Forces had conducted strikes on Russian S-400 and S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems in various locations in occupied Crimea. These attacks have been part of a series of successful operations against Russian targets in Crimea and its surrounding areas, resulting in significant damage to the Black Sea Fleet.
Amid escalating tensions, Russia’s occupation of Crimea has led to the seizure of nearly $24 million in Ukrainian assets in the region since 2022. Proxy leaders in Crimea have implemented decrees allowing for the confiscation of property and assets belonging to individuals perceived as supportive of Ukraine. The ongoing conflict in the region continues to fuel unrest and violence, with both sides engaging in military actions that have far-reaching implications for the security and stability of the area.
