Bridgeport, Connecticut – A man who was recently apprehended in Louisiana has been extradited to Connecticut to face charges related to a violent machete attack that took place on the premises of a Bridgeport high school last summer.
Gerald W. Valle, 22, was taken into custody in Pine Prairie, Louisiana, in connection with the incident that occurred outside Central High School in June 2023. The attack, which occurred around 8:15 p.m. on June 18, prompted a swift response from local law enforcement following reports of an assault with a dangerous weapon at the high school.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered a 26-year-old individual from Bridgeport suffering from a severe wound to his abdomen. The victim was promptly transported to a nearby hospital to receive medical attention. Subsequent investigations conducted by the detective bureau revealed that the victim had been intentionally targeted by a familiar individual and assaulted with a machete near the baseball field adjacent to John F. Kennedy Stadium.
Following his extradition to Bridgeport, Valle now faces multiple charges, including first-degree assault, first-degree criminal attempted assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, and third-degree assault. He is presently being held on a $300,000 bond and is set to make a court appearance at Bridgeport Superior Court.
Acknowledging the efforts of law enforcement in apprehending the suspect, Bridgeport Police Captain Kevin Gilleran expressed gratitude towards Detective Jose Bahr for his diligent work during the investigation, as well as the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force for their support in securing Valle’s arrest.
