BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — Former One Direction star Liam Payne died following a tragic accident at a Buenos Aires hotel, authorities confirmed. An initial autopsy indicated that Payne, who was 31, succumbed to “multiple traumas” and extensive bleeding caused by a fall from the third-floor balcony of his hotel room.
The incident, which has sent shockwaves across the globe, particularly among fans and followers of the popular boy band, reportedly occurred last Wednesday. Payne had been staying at the Hotel Casa Sur in the Palermo district of the city.
According to police reports, Payne sustained a total of 25 traumatic injuries from the fall, which proved fatal. The head injuries were particularly severe and were identified as the primary cause of death, correlating with the considerable height from which he fell.
Investigations have ruled out foul play, as initial inquiries by the Argentinian Public Prosecutor’s Office found no evidence of struggle or confrontation in the hotel room. Moreover, it was determined that Payne was alone at the time of the incident.
Further medical examinations, including histopathological, biochemical, and toxicological tests, have been ordered with results expected soon. These tests may provide additional insights into the circumstances leading to Payne’s fatal fall.
Emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene following reports of erratic behavior possibly linked to substance influence, as stated by Alberto Crescenti, director of Buenos Aires Emergency Medical Services. Despite efforts, Payne was pronounced dead shortly after responders found him in the inner courtyard of the hotel.
Liam Payne rose to fame as a member of One Direction, formed during the 2010 season of “The X Factor.” The group, also featuring Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson, went on to achieve international success releasing chart-topper tracks and albums and garnering millions of fans worldwide.
