The widows of military officers who perished in the 1992 Hercules C130 military jet crash in Lagos, Nigeria, are urging the Nigerian military and the Federal Government to provide them with their late husbands’ entitlements. The crash occurred shortly after takeoff, claiming the lives of all 163 people on board, many of whom were middle-ranking army, navy, and air force officers attending a staff college course in the North. The wreckage was found in a swampy area, just three minutes after the aircraft took off.
During a distribution of palliatives to widows of deceased military officers in the South-South, the wife of the Chief of Defence Staff, Mrs. Oghogho Musa, heard the pleas of the widows. Mrs. Folake Lasisi, speaking on behalf of the widows, emphasized that after 31 years, the victims’ families have still not received their entitlements. She noted that many widows and children of the deceased officers have passed away, and the remaining children are not receiving government support for education.
The widows are calling for the government to review their situation and provide the necessary support, including educational sponsorship for the children. Mrs. Musa, in distributing the palliatives, recognized the sacrifices made by the widows, stating that they had dedicated their lives to marrying military men who served the armed forces of Nigeria.
The Chief of Defence Civil-Military Relations, Rear Admiral I.A.
