SILVER SPRING, Md. — A violent confrontation led to the death of a 22-year-old man on Friday afternoon, prompting police to charge his relative with murder. Authorities responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 2:07 p.m. in the vicinity of Fenton Street and Richmond Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Babacar Mbengue suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Despite immediate medical attention and transport to a nearby hospital, Mbengue succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
Investigators revealed that the incident escalated from a dispute between Mbengue and his 20-year-old relative, Fallou Galass Fall of Laurel. The altercation began inside a vehicle and spilled into the street, where Fall allegedly produced a firearm and shot Mbengue, according to police reports.
Fall was apprehended later that evening around 6 p.m. as he exited his apartment building. He faces charges of first-degree murder in connection with the deadly shooting.
While officials confirmed the familial relationship between the two men, they have not disclosed the nature of their connection, leaving the community seeking answers about the tragic circumstances surrounding the case.
