MORTON, Miss. — A family gathering meant to celebrate a new arrival turned tragic when a shooting occurred at Roosevelt State Park on Sunday evening. The incident transpired around 5 p.m. at the Alfredo Harris Lodge, where family members were reportedly engaged in a gender reveal celebration.
Authorities from the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks responded to a call about an altercation at the lodge. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a shooting had taken place near the pool area. The Scott County Coroner identified the victim as 18-year-old Jetavion Markenyus Johnson from Newton, Mississippi. Coroner reports indicated that Johnson sustained multiple gunshot wounds, particularly to his abdomen. An autopsy is currently pending.
