Lucknow, India — Police have arrested a young man accused of fatally attacking his mother and four sisters in a hotel in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, authorities announced Wednesday. The suspect, identified as Arshad, allegedly poisoned the victims before slashing their wrists.
The tragic incident, which left the victims’ woolen garments stained with blood, unfolded on Tuesday after the family, originally from Agra, checked into the hotel on December 30. Officials noted that the assault followed a bitter family argument, though the specific details of the dispute remain under investigation.
Responders discovered the bodies in one of the hotel rooms, all exhibiting similar slashes to their wrists. The victims include Arshad’s mother, Asma, and his four sisters, whose ages ranged from 9 to 19 years.
Initial findings suggest the possibility that some victims were also strangled or smothered, adding a layer of brutality to the already grim scene. Authorities believe Arshad administered intoxicants in both the victims’ meals and drinks prior to the attack, complicating their ability to resist.
