New Freeport, Pennsylvania — An 18-year-old is in custody following a tragic incident in Greene County where he allegedly shot his mother, resulting in her death, and injured his father. The accused, Jared Noll, was apprehended by West Virginia State Police on Saturday after reportedly crossing state lines.
On Friday afternoon, Pennsylvania State Police received reports of a shooting at a residence on Garrison Ridge Road. Upon arrival, officers found Noll’s mother with a critical gunshot wound. She was transported to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia, where she succumbed to her injuries. Noll’s father also sustained a gunshot wound but was later treated and released in stable condition.
Investigators determined that Noll was the suspected shooter, with both victims identified as his parents. It was confirmed that Noll’s younger siblings were present in the home during the incident, though the shooting occurred outside. The children are now safe with a family member.
Following the shooting, Noll fled the scene on foot, prompting a comprehensive search effort. Authorities closed off Garrison Ridge Road and scoured the surrounding forest for hours. The search was complicated by poor cell service, which hampered communication among law enforcement agencies.
Police utilized tracking dogs, helicopters, and officers on foot to comb through the rugged terrain in pursuit of Noll. “When someone is on the run with a homicide warrant and potentially armed, it poses a serious risk to the community,” said Pennsylvania State Police Sergeant Richard Sizer.
Noll was eventually located in Hundred, West Virginia, after a passerby reported a sighting. He was taken into custody without incident and is being held while awaiting extradition back to Pennsylvania. He faces charges of homicide and attempted homicide.
The collaborative efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies and local fire departments were crucial in bringing the situation to a swift conclusion. “The dedication shown by all involved has been outstanding,” Sizer remarked.
