Chrissiesmeer, South Africa — A farmer is recuperating in a hospital following a brutal attack early Friday morning that left him with a stab wound to the neck. The incident at his farm has led to the arrest of a 46-year-old Malawian suspect, who now faces multiple charges, including attempted murder and stock theft.
According to authorities in Mpumalanga, law enforcement swiftly responded after receiving reports of the violent altercation. When officers arrived, they discovered the victim severely injured and a second individual with a gunshot wound to the thigh.
Sergeant Thulisile Magagula, a provincial police spokesperson, provided details on the sequence of events. The victim had noticed his farm’s perimeter fence had been tampered with and went to investigate, only to be ambushed by two assailants. In a tense struggle, he managed to shoot one of the attackers, while the second suspect fled the scene on foot.
The suspect currently in custody is receiving treatment under police guard and will be brought before the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court as soon as he is deemed medically fit. Investigations have revealed that the fugitive is already out on bail for unrelated offenses in the nearby areas of Carolina and Chrissiesmeer.
Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, the acting provincial police commissioner, expressed his concern over the suspect’s repeated criminal activities, emphasizing that those who continue to offend while on bail must face consequences.
