Oakland, CA – A 27-year-old man from Stockton lost his life while a woman sustained injuries in a shooting incident in East Oakland on Friday night, authorities confirmed.
The tragic event occurred after 9:30 p.m. in the 4000 block of Edwards Avenue, a residential area located just south of the I-580 and near Burkhalter Park. According to the Oakland Police Department, the victims were inside a parked car when they were attacked from outside.
Emergency services promptly transported both victims to a local hospital. Despite efforts to save him, the male victim was pronounced dead at 10:22 p.m. The woman, hailing from Sacramento, received treatment for minor injuries caused by glass shrapnel during the incident. Authorities have yet to release the names of either individual, as family members are still being notified.
The shooter reportedly escaped the scene before police officers could arrive, and as of now, detectives have not provided any details regarding a suspect or a possible motive behind the shooting.
This recent homicide marks the 82nd such incident in Oakland this year, signaling a troubling trend in the city’s safety issues.
