SUNRISE, FL – Authorities have charged a Florida man with first-degree murder following a fatal stabbing that claimed the life of a well-regarded stylist in a parking garage. The suspect was apprehended after allegedly confessing to the crime when at his mother’s home.
Police responded to an emergency call early on May 28 from a man claiming he had been stabbed at an apartment complex in Sunrise. Upon arrival, officers discovered the unresponsive body of 27-year-old Hailey Hosford, pronounced dead on the scene.
Surveillance footage helped police track down Jackson Sagesse, 21, at his mother’s nearby residence. Sagesse reportedly admitted to the crime, telling officers, “I just killed someone and walked away,” following the Miranda warning.
The disturbing incident began when a black sedan carrying Hosford and an unnamed male friend arrived at the Retreat apartment building’s parking garage. After the male friend exited the vehicle, Sagesse was seen approaching with what appeared to be a metallic object in hand.
When Hosford initially tried to evade Sagesse, he allegedly forced the car door open and attacked her. A surveillance video reportedly captured the stabbing motion, according to the police report.
The returning friend got into a physical confrontation with Sagesse and sustained stab wounds himself. Despite his injuries, he managed to flee and call for assistance. Sagesse attempted to move the car but failed and appeared to search for evidence before leaving the scene.
Evidence provided by an employee at the Retreat included surveillance video that identified Sagesse, leading authorities to his mother’s address nearby. Upon his capture, Sagesse was wearing similar clothing to that seen in the footage. A knife found on him resembled a missing piece from a kitchen knife set discovered at his house.
Sagesse was taken into custody without resistance. During questioning, he claimed self-defense but failed to articulate any immediate threat that justified his actions, according to police.
The male friend was hospitalized due to his injuries, although his recovery status remains uncertain.
Well-known in her community, Hosford worked as a stylist and was mourned by her family as they grappled with the tragic loss. Her stepfather expressed their profound grief, describing the incident as “beyond horrific.”
Sagesse is held at Broward County Jail facing charges of premeditated murder and attempted murder, with no option for bond.
