GROVETOWN, Georgia – A 41-year-old woman from Grovetown, Georgia, is facing charges of animal cruelty after authorities discovered the bodies of 9 deceased dogs in her home, with 6 of them found stuffed in a freezer and refrigerator.
According to reports, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office conducted a welfare check at Margaret Nevils’ residence after a concerned neighbor reported not seeing her or her car since October. Upon arrival, deputies found an emaciated Pit Bull Terrier and noticed fecal matter on the floor, along with holes chewed through the walls.
Authorities then forced their way into the seemingly abandoned home, where they observed blood seeping from a refrigerator-freezer unit. A thorough search led to the discovery of several trash bags containing dog bodies in the freezer and refrigerator, with a total of 3 deceased dogs found in the freezer, 3 in the fridge, and 3 more in the master bedroom.
In addition to the deceased dogs, the home contained several empty dog cages and shredded furniture in another spare bedroom. As a result, Nevils was arrested and charged with animal cruelty before being booked into the Columbia County Detention Center.
