Guilty: Calvin Nettles Convicted of Murder and Assault in Death of Carly Capek

Cleveland, Ohio – A man was found guilty on Friday of murdering a mother of four and causing her death with broken glass, according to the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas. Calvin Nettles, 48, was convicted of two counts of murder and two counts of felonious assault in relation to the death of Carly Capek.

Capek was discovered dead in her home on West 78th Street on Sept. 6, 2022, with severe injuries to her face and head. The cause of her death was determined to be sharp and blunt force injuries. Authorities revealed that Nettles was under the influence of PCP at the time of the attack.

Nettles’ sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 30, and as part of the ruling, he is prohibited from having any contact with Capek’s family, the Court of Common Pleas stated.

This devastating case serves as a grim reminder of the tragic impact of domestic violence and substance abuse in communities across the country. The loss of Capek, a beloved mother, has undoubtedly left a profound void in the lives of her children and loved ones.

The court’s decision brings some measure of closure to Capek’s family and friends, but it also underscores the ongoing need for efforts to prevent such senseless acts of violence in the future.

As the community continues to mourn the loss of Capek, authorities and support organizations must work together to raise awareness about the warning signs of domestic violence and provide resources for those who may be at risk. Only through a combination of education, intervention, and support can we hope to prevent tragedies like this from occurring in the future.
