Camden, NJ — A late-night shooting on Wednesday in Camden has left one man dead and another injured, triggering a swift response from local authorities. The incident, which unfolded on Morse Street shortly before 10:30 p.m., is currently under investigation as police seek the unidentified gunman.
Upon receiving alerts from the ShotSpotter gunfire detection system, police arrived at the scene to discover 32-year-old Jose Hiraldo-Peralta, a Camden resident, fatally wounded. According to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, Hiraldo-Peralta was found with multiple gunshot injuries and was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
A second victim, aged 28, also from Camden, was found in a nearby home suffering from a single gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to a local hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment. His condition has been reported as stable.
This violent episode has fueled ongoing concerns about safety in the neighborhood, prompting authorities to reassess their strategies to curb gun violence. The area, which has seen its share of crime, has been more tightly monitored since the integration of technologies like the ShotSpotter system, aimed at speeding up police response times to shootings.
