WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. — A 58-year-old man is facing several felony charges stemming from an incident where he allegedly assaulted employees at a local gym and attempted to evade police in a chaotic confrontation last week.
Wesley Joh reportedly entered the Planet Fitness on Orchard Lake Road and, without warning, struck the front desk manager. After the initial assault, he brandished a steel workout bar, threatening staff and hurling it toward employees before making his escape.
Authorities released body camera footage that captures the tense moments between Joh and the officers who responded to the scene. In the video, an officer can be heard urgently reporting that Joh had attempted to run him over during the ensuing chase.
According to police, Joh collided with multiple police vehicles as he fled, leading to a high-speed pursuit that eventually ended in a nearby residential area. Residents expressed their shock and concern, underscoring the potential danger of the situation. One neighbor remarked on the recklessness of the chase, reflecting on how innocent bystanders could have been caught in harm’s way.

Joh faces nine charges, including assault with a dangerous weapon and fleeing from law enforcement. He is scheduled to appear in court on September 4.
