Houston woman shoots her boyfriend when he returns to the apartment to pick up his things

HOUSTON, TX – A 24-year-old woman has been arrested following the fatal shooting of her boyfriend at an apartment complex in northwest Houston. The incident unfolded Sunday evening, escalating from disturbance calls to a tragic scene with fatal consequences.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple calls regarding a disturbance at the Derby at Steeplechase complex around 9:14 p.m. The situation turned dire when additional reports emerged concerning gunfire in the vicinity. Upon arrival, deputies discovered 22-year-old Javion Williams with a gunshot wound near a stairwell. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities quickly identified Derricka Ross as the alleged shooter. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Williams had visited the apartment to collect his belongings when the altercation with Ross allegedly turned fatal.

Major Earl Dean of the Sheriff’s Office confirmed Ross was detained, and a firearm was recovered at the scene. The investigation remains active as officials work to gather statements from potential witnesses.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez communicated via a social media post that Ross and Williams were involved romantically, emphasizing that Ross currently stands as the sole suspect in this ongoing probe. Law enforcement’s efforts are concentrated on understanding the full sequence of events leading up to the shooting.

Ross has been transferred to the Harris County Jail, where she is held on a $150,000 bond. Her first court appearance is slated for Wednesday as the legal process begins to unfold.
