MUNCY, Pa. – A Pennsylvania woman incarcerated for her role in a 2005 murder case was found dead early Sunday morning in her cell at the state Correctional Institute at Muncy, authorities confirmed. The 41-year-old, identified as Lisa Stavish, was unresponsive when discovered and was pronounced deceased at 6:07 a.m.
The circumstances surrounding Stavish’s death remain unclear and an investigation is underway, led by state police and the local coroner’s office as per protocol.
Stavish had been serving a prison term of 7 to 20 years since 2015, following her guilty plea in the murder of David McEntire. The crime, which took place in Scotrun, Monroe County, involved a brutal attack where McEntire was thrown down the stairs, shot in the legs, and eventually killed by a lethal injection of cocaine and bleach.
The incident stemmed from suspicions of theft after a night of partying, leading to the violent confrontation. Stavish, alongside three men, was implicated in the scheme that ended McEntire’s life. After his murder, the group burned his body and abandoned it at a junkyard near Hazleton.
Among those charged were Anthony Caiby, Edwin Kelly, and James Gaines, all of whom, along with Stavish, faced grave legal consequences. Prosecutors detailed a gruesome scene where Stavish was compelled under duress to administer the fatal injections to McEntire.
During the 2016 trial of her co-defendants, Stavish served as one of the key prosecution witnesses. This trial concluded with Caiby receiving a life sentence for first-degree murder, while Kelly and Gaines also pleaded guilty and were given sentences similar to Stavish.
Stavish’s legal troubles continued following her initial incarceration. She was briefly released on parole in December but was reincarcerated shortly after for a parole violation, returning to SCI Muncy on December 19. Just days later, she was found deceased.
