Las Vegas, NV — A 28-year-old man faces allegations of fatally harming his girlfriend’s 1-year-old son in Las Vegas, following reports of the toddler being shaken and beaten. Christian Moniz Rabino has been charged with one count of murder and two counts of child abuse, as per the latest jail records from the Clark County Detention Center where he was detained on June 25.
The victim, identified as Kai Tesoro, tragically lost his life on June 6, succumbing to injuries just days after the alleged abuse took place. According to a detailed police investigation, the boy’s trauma was reported on June 1 when emergency services were alerted to the child’s unresponsive state.
Law enforcement officials were informed by Kai’s mother that Rabino had become increasingly frustrated with the toddler’s developmental progress, particularly his inability to walk. The arrest report describes a distressing scenario where Rabino allegedly shook Kai violently and struck his legs against the floor.
Despite these harsh actions, the mother claimed this was the first instance where she witnessed physical abuse against her son, although she noted Rabimore frequently shouted at the young child.
Upon arrival at Summerlin Hospital, medical staff discovered concerning signs of abuse on Kai – bruising on his head and a fractured right leg. His condition was severe enough to require sedation and life support.
Initially, both Rabino and the child’s mother attributed Kai’s injuries to a seizure and a fall from the bed. However, medical professionals quickly dismissed this explanation after tests revealed the injuries were non-accidental and indicative of abuse.
Further inquiries unearthed troubling observations from Kai’s biological father, who reported previous unexplained bruises on the boy. He expressed concerns about the dynamic between Kai’s mother and Rabino, detailing a lack of trust toward the boyfriend.
A close acquaintance of the mother revealed she was aware of previous incidents where Kai had allegedly fallen but was dissuaded by Rabino from seeking hospital care.
An autopsy concluded Kai sustained multiple bruises in various stages of healing around his body, including his forehead, behind his left ear, ribs, and knees—pointing to repeated instances of physical trauma. The examination also found severe brain injuries, contributing to his untimely death.
As the case awaits further court proceedings, Rabino remains incarcerated without bail. A court appearance is scheduled for August 7. Efforts to reach Rabino’s attorney for comment have been unsuccessful.
