Local Business Owner Arrested in Fatal Shooting Over Lottery Dispute at 7-Eleven

Philadelphia police have arrested a man suspected of fatally shooting another man at a 7-Eleven store in the Tacony neighborhood. The shooting took place early Thursday morning, prompting a swift response from law enforcement, including a SWAT team.

Officers responded to the scene on Torresdale Avenue shortly after 7 a.m. Medics pronounced the victim dead at 7:15 a.m. As details emerged, police learned that a dispute over a lottery machine inside the store led to the confrontation that ended in gunfire.

In the hours that followed the shooting, police launched a search for the suspect. Tips from local residents directed officers to a house on the 7000 block of Tulip Street. An armored vehicle and several SWAT officers were deployed to the area, creating a secure perimeter around the home. It was later discovered that the suspect had not entered the residence but was instead located in his work vehicle nearby.

Amidst the unfolding situation, police safely escorted a young girl, identified as the suspect’s daughter, from the home. She is now in the care of family members, ensuring her safety during this distressing time.

A neighbor recounted the arrest, describing how officers approached the suspect calmly and took him into custody. “They got him out of the car very calmly, handcuffed him,” the resident said. “Then they went in [the home] and got the little girl out, and they walked her out, two officers holding her hands.”

At the 7-Eleven, the outcome of the violent incident left a community shaken. Witnesses reported hearing shouting and a physical altercation before the shots rang out, leading to the tragic event. One witness recounted, “The guy opened the door, coming out, and they started yelling and screaming. Then they turned around and went back in and started fighting.”

The suspect, a local business owner, remains in custody as police conduct further investigations into the circumstances leading to the shooting. The store and surrounding area were secured with yellow police tape as officers continued to gather evidence.

Community members expressed shock, noting a rising tension in the neighborhood. “It was just, I guess, too much heat for too many days, and … [tempers] short,” one neighbor commented, reflecting on the recent violence.

As the investigation continues, authorities are working to understand the full sequence of events that led up to this tragic incident. The case will likely draw significant community and media attention as more details become available.
