KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. — A shooting on Saturday night has left a local man hospitalized and prompted an arrest by police. The incident, which occurred around 10:15 p.m., is currently under investigation.
Officers responded to a call regarding the shooting in the 1900 block of South Croatan Highway. Arriving on the scene, they located a 53-year-old victim suffering from gunshot wounds in the 100 block of East Fresh Pond Drive. Emergency services transported him to Outer Banks Health Hospital before transferring him to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where authorities report he is in stable condition.
The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Timothy Drake, was present at the scene when officers arrived and has reportedly cooperated with law enforcement during the investigation. Police were able to establish probable cause to charge Drake with assault with a deadly weapon resulting in serious injury.
In light of the situation, detectives from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation have been called in to assist with the ongoing inquiry. Officials indicated that Drake has been released on a $15,000 unsecured bond following his arrest.
