CHARLESTON, West Virginia – Kerry Wiley has been sentenced to the maximum term of 15 years in prison. This comes after a shooting incident in the Kanawha City area in 2022 resulting in the death of Ty Hall, 55, of Charleston.
Wiley was indicted for first-degree murder and for using a firearm during the commission of a felony in connection to the shooting. The incident occurred on August 12, 2022. Hall was found with a gunshot wound to his head in a garage and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Charleston Police Department.
Allegedly, Wiley and Hall got into an argument over Wiley’s termination from a construction job, leading to the shooting. Wiley pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, which could have led to a sentence anywhere from three to 15 years. The defense asked for three years, citing bullet hole trajectory and a toxicology report that suggested the shooting may have been accidental. The state, however, argued that there was enough evidence to show Wiley intentionally shot Hall.
Ultimately, the judge sentenced Wiley to the maximum term of 15 years after hearing testimony from the victim’s family members and reviewing evidence from the case.
