Joliet, Illinois – Authorities confirmed that the man being sought for the shooting deaths of seven individuals in Joliet has died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound following an encounter with U.S. Marshals in Texas. The suspect, identified as Nance, was located near Natalia, Texas, and took his own life when confronted by law enforcement.
The incident began when the Will County Sheriff’s Office alerted Joliet police about a situation in the 2200 block of West Acres. Upon responding, officers discovered seven individuals who had been shot to death across two residences.
Nance was also wanted in connection with two separate shootings that occurred on Sunday. The first incident involved a 42-year-old man who was shot in the leg, while the second shooting at the Pheasant Run Apartment complex resulted in the death of a 28-year-old individual named Toysi Bakare. Police believe both shootings were random and the victims were not connected to each other.
Following the Sunday shootings, law enforcement set up surveillance operations in the area where Nance was last seen. Despite continuous surveillance, the suspect was not located. This led to a decision to make contact with the registered owner of the vehicle associated with the suspect.
At noon, deputies investigating the Sunday shootings found blood outside a residence in the area and subsequently discovered two people shot and killed inside. They then located five more deceased individuals at a second home across the street, all believed to be related to Nance. Despite the belief that the victims knew the suspect, the nature of their connection remained unknown.
The FBI Fugitive Task Force was brought in to support the ongoing investigation by Joliet police and the Will County Sheriff’s Office. As of Monday night, the identities of the victims had not been released.
