Massachusetts Mansion Murder-Suicide: Indian-Origin Family Tragedy Unfolds

DOVER, Massachusetts – The deaths of a wealthy Indian-origin couple and their teenage daughter, found in their $5 million mansion last week, have been ruled as murder-suicide after an autopsy. The bodies of Rakesh Kamal, 57, his wife Teena, 54, and their 18-year-old daughter Ariana, were discovered in their 11-bedroom and 13-bathroom mansion on Thursday. A gun was found near Rakesh’s body, and the Norfolk District Attorney, Michael Morrissey, described the tragedy as a “domestic violence situation.”

According to a press release issued by the office of Morrissey on Tuesday, autopsy results confirmed that Teena and her daughter Arianna were victims of homicide by gunshot, while Rakesh died from a “gunshot wound consistent with being self-inflicted.” An investigation is ongoing, and the final autopsy report is expected to be completed in the coming weeks.

The Massachusetts State Police have involved the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives in determining the origin of the firearm, and the incident remains under investigation by Dover and Massachusetts Police. The family was found after a relative checked on them when they had not been heard from in a couple of days. The DA stated that there had been no police reports or domestic incidents tied to the home, indicating that the incident was initially a case of domestic violence without the involvement of outside parties.

The couple, Teena and Rakesh, ran a now-defunct education systems company called EduNova and had experienced financial problems in recent years. Their mansion went into foreclosure a year ago and was sold to a Massachusetts-based company. Furthermore, Teena filed for bankruptcy last year, listing between $1 million and $10 million in liabilities. Their daughter was a student at Middlebury College, studying neuroscience and was part of the college choir.

The tragedy of the wealthy Indian-origin family has shocked the community, and the investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances that led to the murder-suicide. The full forensic and ballistic testing of the gun is pending, and authorities are working diligently to understand the events that transpired in the Kamal family mansion.
